I looked at his other items and he either doesn't know the meaning of White balance or doesn't care

We do tend to confuse the label with the product. Let's take an example:
Consider an LX. Now we all know that that really is/was quality. This example has been used by a real pro for 30 years, has had a awful lot of lens changes, the mount is well worn, has had perhaps 50,000 rolls of film through it, has no paint left on the corners of the body at all, and has only ever had one service.
Can it now be described as "Quality"
Algy would probably say "NO WAY!"
I might not be so kind.
But, Hey - it's an LX. (And I will happily pay £20 for one in similar condition, just to say that I have owned one.)

Thing is, you pay £20 for it and use it until it expires. At which point you have it fully serviced for about £100 and you now have an overhauled LX for less than the price of those with completely unknown history you see for sale...But, Hey - it's an LX. I seriously considered buying a jammed one with a databack from Rocky Cameras (£50!) a while ago with a view to doing this. Only his dubious reputation put me off.

The problem is people try selling things they have no idea about so slap 'rare' or 'top quality' on an item that, to be honest, is an everyday item to those who use them and know otherwise.

It may not be rare, but if it is indeed stunning then it's starting at a great price.

Pretty average price I'd say. I've got a few of them ranging from £9 through £30.

It's a good lens and I'm on the look out for another. However I think £25-30 should be enough.

I can't remember exactly what I paid for mine but it came with an SFX and was still cheaper than that!
SFX isn't a bad camera either, the MZs are smaller and lighter but the SF series feel more indestructible. Worth keeping an eye on SFX/SFXn listings if you want a 35-70mm as it often works out cheaper to buy camera + lens than lens alone.

The Pentax_A 35-70mm f/4 is better than the F version.

The constant f/4 version isn't very common though.

I've had about four or five of them and have only recently sold one on eBay.

There was a perfect example on ebay of what nonsense this method of bidding is link
A 28mm Pentax M lens with what the seller described as:
"HEAVY FUNGUS INSIDE LENS" It's worth £10 - £15 at the most but sold for an unbelieveable £41 + £3 postage all because of idiotic or shill bidding The last bid was so idiotic that no one else bid again and that bid stood for 3 days.
