eBay Bargain

Think I may have just bagged the bargain of the year, check ebay item 7501453341, this looks very much like an SMC-A 50mm f2.8 Macro lens. Can anybody confirm this before it arrives.

There are several questions on the listing, and one answer says "Not a Macro lens" and another indicates an aperture range of 2 - 22.

Even if this is "only" a SMC Pentax-A 50mm f2, it's still a good lens, very useful for the digital bodies and well worth the price you bid.

To make the deal even better, why not put the converter back on eBay and get a fiver or more back?

Did not see the Q & A's, I had my bid lined up a while ago, thought at the time that it may be a macro lens with the seller decribing it as f2.8 to f22 and the photo looks much like the one I have.
Not dissapointed at only having to pay the final price for both items, however I already have an SMC-F f1.7. SMC-A f1.4 and a SMC-A f2.8 macro so if it's an SMC-A f2 it will be going back on ebay shortly, will keep the converter for the time being (attached to the rear of my SMC 300 f4)

"Very Useful" for two reasons. Firstly, it is a fast standard suitable for low light use and secondly on a DSLR it makes a fantastic 75mm - equivalent portrait lens, perfect for studio use. The fact it is a "A" series lens means that all the exposure modes will work fully on all bodies.

"Only" because the f2 lens was a low cost option in the range, but it is still a creditable performer.

There seems to be a never-ending supply of 50mm lenses on Ebay, and at very low prices.

I am amazed that more people aren't snapping these up. The quality, as JR says, is superb, and will be an eye-opener to people who have only ever owned consumer zooms.

At around £20 per lens, or less, you can't go wrong.

Talking of bargins - just won an auction for an SF7 an AF400FTZ, a SMC F 35-135 an ever ready case and a cable release for a shade under £54.

I only really wanted the lens (nice partner to my new 16-45 on the *ist DS) so the rest will be back on ebay is individual lots before long (might play with them first)

I saw that, but as I already have all the constituent bits, there was no point in bidding.

Unless you are well-supplied with flashguns, I would be inclined to hang onto the 400. It's powerful, it zooms, bounces and swivels, it has TTL and manual modes, as well as low-light focus assist, and has a socket for 5p cables. It's only competitors are the 500 and the 360, which are both very expensive.

The 400 alone is worth what you paid for the whole shebang.

As I have the 360 FGZ and a 280T (and the little mini manual slave) the 400FTZ is one more than I need really.

Yes, when I said £20 per lens earlier in the thread, I was referring to the manual lenses.

Over £100 for an F 50mm 1.7 is good going. In the States you can get a brand new FA 1.4 for the same money, though you do have to wait for them.

Hi All

I've been tracking the eBay price of 50mm A, F and FA lenses since I won the auction at the begining of this thread, seems they have become a bit of a sought after item again, just resold the A 50 f1:2 for £32 .
Wonder if this has anything to do with the DS or Pentax allegedly ceasing 50mm production.
