Dumb question - playback screen

I have a new K20D

I have a dumb questions to go with it.

In playback mode, when I press to look at the next picture, the screen shows the next image then after a split second it changes slightly, presumably to show more detail. I am familiar with this concept from viewing programmes on the computer. However, this more detailed view appears WORSE than the original view. For example, much more pixelated.

Is this normal?

Go into Playback Tab in the Menu's

Down to

Playback Display, go to Quick Zoom and turn OFF, think that is why its looking pixelated..

Hmm. It is off already. Any more thoughts?

I think the camera is showing a low res image as quickly as possible and then improving the resolution as soon as it can. All the Pentax models seem to do this, DSLRs and compacts.

The final picture looks better to me, not worse.

I agree with John, Mine does the same thing.

Yup that makes sense. Thanks. I guess I will get used to it. To give you an example of the pixelated effect, take a photo of a tree, which this time of year shows many twigs and branches. I think the more detailed view is less clean.

Glad that i don't have a duff camera though...
