I am very unclear what you are arguing. Are you saying camera sales as a whole are going to go down, or just dSLRs? Are you thinking that dSLRs might be replaced by, say PEN-style mirrorless hybrids?

I've corrected the title.
I too am unclear what is being argued. Against a backdrop of Pentax DSLR sales having "increased sharply" and having moved into healthy profit, the argument seems to be for healthy growth through 2010.
Add a model or two to the range and the possibilities will increase, but all the K-x colours may well have helped for now.

I don't really see the likes of the PEN doing much harm to smaller DSLR sales, as for what you get they seem rather overpriced to me. Very elegant certainly, but not that much smaller than a K-x with the right lens fitted and the K-x gives you more options.

I bought an EVIL - a Panasonic GF-1. Yes - I have also ordered sackcloth and ashes from SRS to do pennance. I do have to say that they aren't overpriced as I've been using it almost exclusively for the last 2 months as a travel camera, and the quality is astounding - even at very high ISO. I've got some amazing candid portraits and general interest shots. No worse than the K20D. It's pricing model may be unsustainable in some areas - I do have to say that I question Sony's strategy in terms of how many bodies they have available at the moment. Yes they are competing in more markets than Pentax, but I still think there are too many.
Pentax having just two current bodies is a little conservative (let's ignore the 645D for now) but it does offer a straightforward choice.
But there will always be a market for DSLR's.

Methinks there is some trolling here... after all pentax seems to be adding to Hoya's profit line at the moment...And so what if Sony has 11 models? It's very difficult to differentiate between them at the moment, and unless you want an a500/a550 which only just ape the spec of the old a350 which was much cheaper you are getting short changed. The plethora of budget models in Canon's range must be confusing to a lot of new photographers too...
