I believe it should work, but not all functions will be supported. I have a DS (not a DS2) and the manual says the AF400FTZ supports the following functions on my DS:-
Auto flash discharge
after flash is charged the camera switcheds to flash sync speed
Aperture is automatically set in P mode and Tv mode
Autoceck in view finder
TTL auto (with limitaions on some lenses)
Slow synch speed
AF illuminator
Rear-curtain synch (1/90 or slower)
I don't know if anyone with a DS2 manual can confirm this?

everything which was introduced after the DS * does not offer TTL support, only P-TTL.
Non P-TTL flashguns will operate in manual mode.
My DS worked ok with my AF220T flashgun but the images were overexposed between 1 and 2 stops. My new Samsung (AF360FGZ clone) works pefectly
* I don't know about the K10D though

I picked up the 400 FTZ last night and have been playing around with it. Seams to work on the DS2. It reads the camera and sets the shutter speed. Also the flash ready light comes on in the viewfinder. The Focus asst light works in low light. It has some limitations. I couldn't afford a new one and I think it's better then the used 185HV I looked at. I needed a flash with a swivel head. It was a lot cheaper then the new ones and even came with a warrenty (6 months).
