Dropped K20D

Hi

I dropped my one year old K20D on the back garden step, the ‘TAX’ of the Pentax logo took the full brunt of the fall and has been pushed in slightly and to the right,(viewed from back) the flash still pops up but needs slight persuasion to stay down, once down its fine. Looking at the top front where the flash sits, there is a slightly wider gap at the front right hand side so looks like the plastic has been pushed over very slightly.
On the positive side, I’m impressed with the robust build, every thing works fine and my Ka 50mm f/2.8 suffered no damage. (Kood screw on lens hood saved it I think).

Although the damage is more or less cosmetic, I would like to have it put right in the future, perhaps as part of a service.

Has anyone had a similar experience, any advice would be welcome as to a good repairer etc.

Check out you home insurance sometimes things like this are coverd on it.

Contents insurance should cover the cost of repair, assuming you have insurance.

The down side is it may not, on the other hand the insurers may see the camera as a complete loss and replace the body with a new one, or equivalent.

Has anyone any advice regarding this option, as I can't get a new K20D body and there isn’t an equivalent current Pentax model I think there may be problems.

You'll find they would offer you an alternative camera at what they consider to be a similiar level - with luck, a K7.

My parents had an 80's Nikon SLR stolen in a burglary, they were offered a F6 as a replacement which was far too big and they didn't really want a film camera anyway, so they got a brand new 40D & some lenses instead! (this was a couple of years ago obviously)

Thanks flossie, That would be nice and perhaps I’m being a bit pessimistic.
I would be happy with a repair too, as I really like my K20D.
and as I say it still works fine.

If you insurance company cant find a Pentax repacement ask about a Samsung GX 20 if this is the model you would realy like to stay with. My only worry for you would be, is I think Samsung may have discontinued there production of this model as mine is away for repair and the repairer cant get the part from Samsung to do the repair so Im waiting to see what my options are here as well.

Thanks, I will get a cost of repair from 'Asahi Photo Ltd' tomorrow which will give me a starting point, the camera is still working fine so fingers crossed may be an easy repair repair.
