He's a New York cabbie and drives about with a camera in his hand and blindly snaps pics out of the window without looking through the viewfinder. A man after my own heart. Because that's exactly what I do

I do similar, but I tend to look at what I'm shooting before pressing the button!

Not quite as blindly, but on an open top bus in Havana I took 138 pictures in under 45 minutes. The amazing thing was I got a number of great pictures which I might not have taken otherwise.

I'm not amazed at all.


Often "shooting before you think" is better than "thinking before you shoot" is a good thing.

I don't believe it's totally blind anyway. I think a subconscious process tells us to aim the camera in the general direction and press the shutter.

Often the 'great shot' is slightly out of focus and the composition is not quite right, but had I stopped to get it in focus and compose properly the moment would have gone and I wouldn't have got the shot at all. Sometimes these shots are in focus and have cool composition and then you realise how worth wile the hobby is


Your shooting from that open top bus wasn't completely random. Things caught your eyea and you shot from an autonomic reaction to them.
