Amazon have decided to delete the site after 25 years.
A bit of a shame really as it was a good data base for digital photography questions and research.

I know, I received the info yesterday. As you say, a bit of a shame. I liked the site, it was useful and informative. I looked at the rationale Corporate provided and let's just say I was not impressed. Corporate jargon and fake regret. (I am being so polite here.)
Be well, stay safe.

Pity. But nothing lasts for ever, particularly when your owner regards you as a means to an end rather than an end in itself. There's no intrinsic financial value in something like DP Review (or even Pentax User ) so it's eliminate rather than sell.

Perhaps someone here who is a member of DP Review (I'm not) might feel inclined to post on its Pentax and Ricoh forums a friendly invitation to join Pentax User... Or perhaps an invitation from the management team would be in order? There seem to be plenty of people posting comments on DP Review saying that they would be happy to pay to keep it going. Paying a voluntary (and absolute bargain) £10/year to keep a friendly, Pentax-dedicated, not-owned-by-a-commercial-monster website and forum going might seem a very reasonable proposition.

It is a shame. They were the first forum I ever joined.

There have been posts suggesting this, as well as other forums to visit, including two of which I was completely unaware.

Wow... I just found out by logging in on here for the first time in ages. This is disappointing given the large communitiez that built up over there. Nothing lasts forever but a lot of my go to websites and communities have been closing down recently. Many have been operating for over 20 years. Guess it is a sign of the times. Read media is trending downward while video seems to be the go to.

Unfortunately, video is a terrible format for a lot of stuff that I look up. It is so much easier to pick out information from a written site than a video.
Regards,
Dan

Jeff Bezos only owns 10% of amazon shares currently after stepping down as CEO. the company has mainly been sold to a new breed of investors through different subsidiaries , basically another way to disguise the fact that it is Chinese owned like a lot of other things in these recent years, particularly in the good old USA.
