Fiona, I too did not like the sky but having rolled it up the screen to "crop it out" I found that it did not work as you lose the angle formed by the top of the containers, so although I see your point of view I do not think it is possible to crop this image and still retain it's appeal. The rag is another matter and I think I would have tried to remove but it is Paul's shot and if that is how he wishes to present it then that is how we must view it.

No worries, Fiona. I'm the easiest person on this forum to do that with.
My intention with this scene was to portray how everythin' was intersectin' and the sky helps with that, showin' the fence movin' off in one direction and the containers in the other. Then there is the analogy and contrast with the shapes in the scene, given by the containers and the diamond link fencin'.
And finally, I liked the soft edges given by the water and gravel pile in the foreground.
In sincerity, this was how I saw the scene and wanted to record it.
My images are rarely beautiful, but I hope they engage the mind, moreso.

Sorry for coming back in late Paul but I've just seen your colour version. Thanks for posting it. Having seen both I prefer the black and white. If the containers had been bright jazzy colours it might have been a different result.

Had a look at the colour version -- B&W is best for me, but ain't that always the case?
I half expected the containers to be that sort of ubiquitous orange colour but they weren't but anyways B&W 4 me!
ps I now know who is under the tarp!
pps popped into barking last night yep its gone all colourful but lucky 4 me I live on the wet side of the A13 so I don't get into the town too often!!
