Don't you just hate it when...

... you go somewhere to take some specific pictures and obstacles are put in your way

Just a little rant.

A while back I drove to Stourhead (over an hour) to take some specific pictures of one of the buildings. After trekking up the hill I found it encircled by that orange plastic barrier stuff due to some building work.

Next time I had time to go I rang them and asked whether there was any building work. They didn't know of any. Trekked up the hill to find a film crew had just set up all their kit around that building, filming a historical drama.

The other day I went back to St Cross to explore some more views and found scaffolding on the chimneys I was interested in. So I carried on to Winnall Moors, paid to park in Winchester, walked round to the location and found the permissive footpaths were closed off due to livestock movements. So then I carried on to Danebury Ring, arriving at the same time as several coaches full of very small school children on a school trip... they were everywhere

There, that feels better already...

Sounds a familiar story, also, why am I always working when major events are on.

Sounds like a good reason to rant!

I always hear about events that would be good photo ops after they've happened, and seem to be a magnet for school parties.

This is why I tend to go up the Elan Valley on crisp winter days. No strange people in lurid rainwear ruining the view, as it's far too cold for them!

My sister-in-law caused a few raised eyebrows when she was asked at a museum how the place could be improved. "Ban children," she said.

One of the pictures I wanted of New York was 'that' cliched shot of the skyline behind Brooklyn Bridge. Unfortunately the bridge was covered in scaffolding.

John - I agree with your sister in law, personally I'd like to ban them from public places

We tried that in the parks, it didn't work!!!

I've got myself lined up on a shot only to have a 'pro' stand in the way just as the shutter button was pushed. He then got out his tripod, set up, wasted 10 minutes on his mobile took the shot I wanted then left because it was starting to rain.

I offered him some advice on what I was going to do with his tripod, but he just laughed and walked off.

Git!

Personally I would like to ban them from my house - it's full of them, noisy, messy, always in the way, moaning, whining and eating or drinking anything I stupidly did not consume quickly enough myself, Caught my 20 month old helping himself to my glass of 15yr old single malt last night - but what can you do - at least the boy has taste

I'm glad I'm not the only one!

Speaking of things in the way, I've often found that while out driving I see something worth a shot, but there is nowhere to park on the narrow country roads. Once or twice I've found somewhere to put the car safely, but then in walking back up the lane to get the shot I've found that the car is now an unwanted element of the picture... a hazard of very wide-angle lenses. D'oh!

Sounds like you'll all enjoy this week's WTD cartoon (#1284), but HG in particular will appreciate it .

Even more off topic (sorry John :blush it would be nice if museums, zoos and the like had a child free day occasionally. I wonder if they would get more people going or less?

I'd appreciate supermarkets having them. There was a child in Tesco this morning which sounded more like a Pterodactyl rather than anything human!

Hoist by one's own petard

I like kids in supermarkets...

...they give me something to run over/hit/trip up when I have a trolley.

The usual response from Mum and Dad is to grab some chocolate and shove it into their little darling's gob. The lesson learned? Shrieking at the top of your voice brings chocolate.

I love that advert where the mother takes a different tack and throws herself on the floor in a tantrum, leaving the kid confused and blissfully silent!

If you don't like kids..... just push them to one side
of your plate!!
