Do lenses need servicing?

Hello everyone, some advice if you don't mind.
I am awaiting delivery of a DA*50-135mm lens from a fellow forum member. Apparently the lens is in great condition with no SDM issues - but it is in excess of 5 years old.
Does it make sense for me to have it serviced if it performs exactly as it should, or would a service dramatically reduce the chance of problems in the future? If so, who would I be best using?
In other words, in your experience will I be better leaving well alone?
Thanks in anticipation of some helpful replies
Lots of gear - but not a lot of idea!

If it ain't broke don't fix it. Even it were serviced there would be no guarantee that the SDM wouldn't fail the next day. So better off saving pennies for that potential eventuality.

I'd wait until the lens arrives and see how well it performs...

If you are still in doubt I would check service prices from Johnson's, I'm sure any work they do is covered by guarantee.

I have had some of my lenses for forty years of professional use, none have ever been serviced, as The Horrible Doctor Orloff says, leave them alone if they work fine

My eyes need servicing every two years, with limited success.

Currently about the same for mine too, but again it's only if they need fixing. I get them checked every year (free through work) but maintenance procedures are only if they need it...
