DIY Ring Flash for Macro Photography

I don't know if this has been discussed before (couldn't find it by searching the forum), but there's an interesting article I came across about building a DIY ring flash. Article here link I notice he's using a K20D as well

Haven't built it myself, so don't know how effective it would be, but the principle seems sound. Could save someone a lot of money!

Fair play if you're into that sort of thing - looks like it works though! I am keen to buy a ring flash myself but price is too much - so maybe one cold snowy day I might have a go! Regards Jak

To be fair Nathan, the one in the OP's link is a *very* different design to yours - one I hadn't seen before in fact... Looks interesting though and cheap!

@Nathan,

In my forum search I found several articles relating to DIY ringflash, but none based upon the idea of using cheap fibre optics, hence why I submitted the link. Do you not think it is a good idea? I would have thought for macro photography it has good potential...
