Digital CD storage question

This may seem basic to you all, but I am new to this digital stuff. I started storing my digital pictures in CD-Rs. They say that they have 700 MB of space, but if I store just a small amount...20-30 MB and then try to add more later the CD will say it is full and will not take more. Does someone have a clue on why this is happening? It seems like a waste to use so many CD's!

Hi Ava,

Some CD burner software have "Close Disk" option defaulted after writing. This means that anything you write on it will "close" the CD from any more writing. You must change this option to allow future writing into the same CD-R.

Which CD burner are you using, btw?

If you use Nero version 5.??, the default is to allow further writing into the same CD.

I am using Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4. I will have to explore the software and look for this setting! That you very much. Now maybe I will be able to add more to my CD's!

I just bought an Addonics Multi Functional Recorder. It looks like a great way to transfer from Flash Card to CD when on vacation. Nero came with the package so I am going to install it and try it out!

Yes, I have used Adaptec Easy CD creator before and I think it defaults to "Close Disk" or "Close Session?" (something like that) when burning a CD.

I had this similar problem like yours the first time I used the software, until I found this option and disabled it.

I just figured the Adaptec one out. You have to check off close session and leave CD open in the setup dialog box. When you make your first session you have to save it, then it will remember which CD you have in. When you add a new image to the CD it will bring up the correct session (protecting the images already present) add the new one. If you do not save it as a session then it erases everything on the CD and replaces it with the new image.

To avoid losing images, you can also store them in your computer until you have 700Mb worth of them and then write them all to one CDR or you can use CDRW disks.

I also read somewhere, there is a limit to the number of files or folders stored on CD individually , , quite a lot but you can save a number of individual jpegs and be well below the memory space (700Mb?) but still run out of room.
so my advice as Tony Blair says... (THE Tony Blair??) is to save 'em on hard disc, and when you have enough, burn em.
