I've stayed very near here I think, but not gone in. Is it near Ipplepen, down a tiny B road? We stayed near and drove past on the backroads when heading to Torquay.

Like many visits to NT or EH properties, we often only get there a bit late in the morning, or have to leave too early in the afternoon that we miss the best times of day for lighting. I think you've made the most of the rather un-ideal lighting by framing close in to the castle in all shots. I'm loath to say it bearing in mind that my shots keep being criticised for being 'too yellow', but perhaps a slight warming in tone would benefit the stonework?
My favourites are actually the last two, but I feel they are slightly overexposed - maybe half a stop less would look better?
There's some blue noise-like stuff around the window frames - it might be possible to reduce it and return the stone colour in processing.
But I think the viewpoints and framing angles are all very strong

Yes, Nigel, it is about 4 miles from Ipplepen, and access is along a very narrow road but reasonably signposted. It is a beautiful and tranquil place well worth a visit, and it has a very good little cafe there.
The lighting is always likely to be a problem when visiting these places in summer, because they are not open during the golden hours. The stone of the structure is more of a grey colour than is a typical sandstone, so the colour balance might be about right for the middle of the day, from what I can remember - judge when you visit next year!
I think you are right about the exposure - in fact, they might all benefit from that sort of reduction. I hadn't noticed that odd blue effect around the window frames but you are right - it does need some treatment to reduce or remove it, as I can't stop noticing it now.
As a relatively inexperienced photographer, I find it very helpful to receive observations (positive and negative) and suggestions from other members, so I am most grateful to you for your reply, Nigel.
