Debate on camera Bag

It would be nice for the female amongst us if they would produce a reasonable size bag that looked like a handbag but took a body and a couple of lens at least, one of those bags that you wear across the body but does not scream expensive camera at all and sundry.

Thordell, Jill-E makes some lovely camera bags for ladies. They are expensive but they don't look like camera bags at all. One of these years I shall treat my self. She also makes some pretty good looking bags for men.

I have a Tamrac Expedition 5 back pack. Just about carry-on legal, and holds everything I want. It is heavy though, and more and more airlines are weighing carry-on. I am thinking of getting one of the Think Tank airport series to be sure I am carry-on legal.

I am envious of the condition of your 110 case

Ours is generally in good condition apart from where one of our cats decided to chew it, many years ago

LOL! Good points well made

How about getting a small dedicated camera bag (one with padding and dividers), take the strap / handles off and put the whole thing inside a large-ish handbag of your choice? Hey presto, you have an anonymous handbag that happens to contain all your camera gear.

Judging by the prices 110 equipment fetches on eBay it's probably the most valuable part of my entire kit!

I find this bag mallarky a real problem. I have one shoulder bag type bag which I like as I can get to everything quickly, but at the end of a long day I have a very stiff shoulder. I also have a Lowerpro backpack which means I can carry lots of stuff (including my laptop) but when I want to take a picture I have to find a bench or something to put the bag down on to get the gear out. Even then I have to be careful as the way the zip undoes it is easy to dump the camera on the floor. I then have a padded bag that just takes the camera and whatever lens is fitted on it. OK, as long as I choose the right lens... Add to that my inbuilt natural tendency to pack everything including the kitchen sink, every trip out the door involves agonising over which bodies/lenses/filters/flashes to take. Aggghhhh...

I'm still going to get a Jill-E when I can afford one. They really don't look like camera bags at all.

Kris I know what you mean!

Nice looking bags but I wish someone had shown the model how to hold a camera

I think we've all had that problem over the years Kris
I went through half a dozen bags and many a night with a stiff shoulder before I decided on my Tamrac Expedition 3, it was small and light and held just enough. When I needed extra space I just used the webbing to add extra pouches, I would still be using it were it not for the increse in size of my kit, by that I mean physical size of the bodies and lenses.

I was doing a magnetometry survey today on a small site in Herts so just took the K10D with the 43mm Ltd. There is a herd of deer living near the site including one albino. I had forgotten about them and I wished I had the 70-300mm zoom instead when I found them grazing in the middle of the field... Ah well. Next week.

Has anyone personally seen one of these
I want an opinion on how it is compared to some of the Tarmac and Lowepro ones. I particularly like the fact that it has a small flap from the above that allows you to pull out the camera without having to open the whole main flap (in the link it says camcorder but I am sure it would suit a camera as well as it even shows a picture of one inside).

Kris mentioned this particular aspect of being a pain having to open the whole bag to remove the camera and I go through the same. Ideally I would like that possibility. I have the Kata 3N1-20 and its great for that, I can just open the compartment where the camera is without messing up with other stuff, but it doesn't take my K20 with the DA*300 lens attached.

The other thing I like in this bag is the flaps doors on the sides that would neatly tuck in the lenses and other stuff.

If anyone has seen this it would be great to have a first hand opinion, or if someone has an idea of any other bag that would suit the purposes I would kindly welcome any suggestions.

many thanks

Amin

I was just about to come back and say that, its just not suitable yup, you are absolutely right. And the dimensions of it too. you beat me to it.

I am practically looking for a bag with that facility as mentioned earlier, it would be really nice being able to pull out the camera with the lens attached without having to open the whole of it. Besides it seems most tarmac ones that I have seen and I like the concept of it the camera really lie the other way aroound so one would have to necessarily open the whole bag in order to remove the camera. Making it almost like a suitcase opening.

Any other ideas?
