Hmm, see, the Dimitrov site lists it for the M 28mm and 35mm lenses with 49mm filter threads?

It is definitely an SMC - Pentax haven't made a lens without that since the Takumar-F zooms.
I was a bit baffled why anyone would worry about flare too.

Flare isn't much of a problem with any SMC lens, apart from possibly the SMC Pentax 15mm f3.5 which is pushing design to the limits for its time.

Like said it does come with SMC, it even has the newest coating from Pentax, the SP to make it more rebelling against dust, water and grease to make it easier to clean and let the water pearl of the front element.

How do you provoke or look for purple fringing? I don't tend to hunt for problems in images, providing they're sharp and the colours look realistic I'm happy!

Obviously it will be SMC coated and flare will not be a 'problem' but almost all lenses will show flare if you 'torture test' them. What I was getting at is some of the DA ltds seem to have amazing flare resistance. The DA 15 ltd produces virtually no flare when you shoot directly into the sun, or other bright light source - just beautiful little rays around it. The DA 21mm seems to be almost as good from what I've read. It would be lovely if the DAL 35mm had that quality too. (Would also obviate the need for a lens hood)....It is definitely an SMC - Pentax haven't made a lens without that since the Takumar-F zooms.

I'm not worried about flare at all, but excited to think that it might be really good in this regard!

If it's based on the FA35, take a picture of anything with reflected sunlight involved

Looking at the list of lenses in Doug's signature, I'd hope that none of them could produce that fringing, so either it's a lens that he's borrowed from elsewhere, or it's come from a compact (and as noted by another post in this thread, personal experience suggests that FujiFilm compacts are easily capable of producing this kind of fringing!).

I only used it for about 5mins but it feels well made, better than the 18-55 DA-L. No quickshift but it's badged as a DA (no L). It clicks onto the camera positively despite the plastic mount and weighs next to nothing. Can't comment on flare control but I see no reason for it not to keep up with other SMC-coated lenses.
Now looking for a PH-S49 lens hood (which fitted the M 28mm and 35mm, so should work on this too), no luck yet.
