Da*55 and or da*50-135

Hi, looking for some advise really.
I wish to buy a da* 50-135 for my k5 but I already have a da* 55 f1.4 . My question is, will the 50-135 give just as good pics as the prime when set at 55mm ? If so, then I have a 55mm for sale. If not, then I'll keep both. I have to say though I do love the da* 55 and I'll be gutted if the 50-135 doesn't live up to my expectations.

You sound like you're pretty much decided to buy the 50-135, so why not just buy it, make your own comparisons and decide for yourself?

Both are good lenses, but the 50-135 isn't going to be much good to you if you want to take a shot at F1.4

If it's a question of cash you could always sell the DA*55 and replace it with the cheaper FA50, which will obviously give more similar results to the DA55 than the 50-135 can.

I have both lenses, and although the zoom covers the 55 they are very different beasts. I believe the strengths of the 55mm are in the beautiful images you can get at around f2.0, the zoom is very sharp right throughout its range, and although f2.8 is not a bad aperture for portraits - the DA* 55mm gives a better "look" in my opinion.

I have nothing bad to say about the 50-135, it has alwas produced excellent photos, but i find that I hardly ever use it

I own the DA*55 and the DA*50 to 135, together with the DA* 16 to 50. All three shine in relation for different uses and reasons. Personally I would keep the DA*55 and buy the DA*50 to 135, it's a superb lens that covers a wide focal range and is great for portraits. However, the DA*55 is unique in terms of the look you can achieve in terms of portraits, I guess it depends on what you mainly photograph as to which lenses to buy or sell. If you have both lenses you can make your own judgement in relation to your photographic needs. Off topic the new Sigma 35 f/1.4 looks very interesting.

I guess i was hoping someone would say that the 50-135 would do as much as the 55 and more due to the extra range.
But being as it seems it won't give equivalent shots at the same settings, I think I'll keep it and save a bit longer for the 50-135.
