Just came across this whilst browsing the www...a mini-review of the new DA 55-300 by popphoto.

The sharpness results back-up what many of us current 55-300 owners know..it's pretty impressive !!

You have to take what they say with a pinch of salt as they almost always say everything is great. That doesn't mean it isn't but I'd just like a 2nd opinion.

Fair enough...not one to dwell on a single review either but thought it might be useful... there's quite a few users other than me on here who have also been very pleased with the lens

Photozone seems to imply that the max aperture is F5.6 at 200mm - which would make it slower than the Tamron 70-300mm's F4.5 at 200mm.

The MFT figures aren't quite as good as the Tamron's either.

I have a DA 50-200 kit lense and am thinking of upgrading to DA 55-300 to use with my K20. Is it worth the upgrade?

The review says: "All-in-all it is optically superior compared to its smaller cousin, the SMC DA 50-200mm f/4-5.6 ED."

Plus you get another 100mm of reach. So, yeah, it's a better lens. Whether it's worth it to you no-one else can say.
