I didn't keep copies of the images, I'm afraid, but did compare a Samsung (same as Pentax) 50-200mm to an older manual-focus Pentax A 70-210mm f4 on the same camera.
The 70-210's image quality was good generally, but not as sharp as my 50-200's - most noticeably and definitely with a subject at 10 feet away - which admitedly is not the most relevant test for a telephoto.

I have both the DA 50-200 and the F 70-210, The former is sharper than the latter. It is also smaller, lighter, focuses more quickly and it has quick-shift focusing

Their winner was the Nikon 55-200f4-5.6 ed af-sdx. The others in the test were similar spec. from Canon, Pentax, Sigma and Tamron.
The final comment of the artical was "this lens is the best of an average bunch", actually the DA 50-200mm 4-5.6 ED achieved the lowest score.
I was wondering if anybody had made comparisons between this class of lens and the older 70-210 type i remember from my Ricoh film camera days
