The FA's limited are all better in most fronts, the DA's are sharper though.
If you want the wide aperture then a FA50/DA*55 would preform better but it's a different focal length.
I don't own one though.

Another little bonus point for the FA Ltd - it's got an aperature ring, so it can be used on any K mount body - DA 40 doesn't, so is only good for digi bodies and some of the late MZ series bodies (ie MZ10, 50 & 60).

The aperture ring also means you can use the 43 reversed and on bellows for macro work

To say one thing nice about the DA40, it had Quick-shift and the FA43 doesn't

Also bear in mind the price differential - the £400 you save by buying the DA could be go quite a long way towards another lens (80% of a 70mm limited for example)

I've had, or have, both the 43mm and 40mm and they are both excellent lenses.
On balance, the Quick Shift is such a useful feature that it tips the balance for me towards the 40mm.

I must admit I'm also a big fan of QS, but the DA40 was just a little *too* small for my porky fingers. The FA43 is a very nice size to handle IMO, if it had the 40's QS it would be pretty much perfect.

I have both and for me it's no contest, the FA43 every time.
The DA40 is sharper in the corners at wide apertures and must be Pentax's fastest focussing lens, but the FA43 has a touch of "magic"; I just love the images from this lens
