Your best bet is to go to a dealer and try it and see.
Failing that, save some money and buy the FA version instead?

The one I tried appeard to be back focusing on my K10D @ F1.4, then again, so did the Sigma 30mm F1.4!
I agree with John, the FA 1.4 might be a better option. Then if you were a K20D owner, you could change focussing for each lens independently!

Thanks all. I'm unable to drive at the moment due to medical reasons, so visiting shops is not very easy. The FA 1.4 does seem a bit of a no-brainer, and I suppose it's time to start saving for the new body anyway...

Only used it a little since I've had it, but it definately seems sharper than the FA version that I had. Still it should be with the price difference!
Works fine with the 1.4 Tamron TC with SDM contacts, but then I wouldn't do that as I can just put the 77mm Ltd on instead!

IMO buying a very high quality lens and then lowering the IQ by using it with a converter seems like defeating the object...

Yes, I agree, I have understood why these converters are so popular. I had one 30 odd years ago and basically chucked it away. They must always degrade the quality of the lens and slow it by stops I think.
Still each to his own. I think I'd rather have the 50-135 lens that's about at the moment.

Agreed with Mike there and also about the FA50.
The bokeh of the FA50 and The DA*55 seems very much the same although the DA*55 is sharper and does that across the frame. So if sherpnees is really needed get the DA* if not like portrait for example the FA will be a cheaper solution.
You can of course get the FA50 and maybe a 100mm macro...
The FA50 + Tamron 90mm macro will cost you £95 more the only the DA*55 then also comes a TC wich needs to have SDM/PZ connectio do you want to have autofocus so the difference will be less or you might even be cheaper.
The DA*50-135 is also a wonderfull lens, I regret not buying it sooner
