D-FA 100mm (my first uploads)

Well as the title say my first upload here so please give me some good comment so that I can learn

The first time I use the D-FA 100mm on some close focus subjects. Threw half of the photos away because of the very shallow DOF
No crop btw, it's pitty his right wing isn't fully in the shot.



Some normall photos with the lens, the wolf is quite heavily cropped!




All not so special but please leave a comment just in photography for a year so every advise is very welcome

I really would like to have some creative ideas on this one, really want to do something with it but just don't know what



all photo's done with the D-FA 100mm macro on a K10D.
Some landscapes are laying in the freezer here, just didn't have time to work on them but they will come soon I hope.

really stunning detail in all of them, but especially the bird. The DOF on all of these feels very natural and it really compliments the images. great colours in them too

everyone like the bird except me.

The colours comes mostly from the lens and a soft light layer of 30% is helping it a little
But other then that only a bit of sharpening

1,2 & 3 for me a nice set of photos, the Wolf being my favourite.

Yes i like the bird but the wolf has to be no.1 for me

2 + 3 are great for me.

I like the way you have got in close to eliminate anything but the subject, especially of the bird.

The first one is good but personally I would drop the exposure a bit so as to darken the background a bit but more importantly the butterfly itself (it may just be my laptop screen but it seems very bright to me).
Also, pity you didnt get the whole butterfly in there.

The wolf, I would clone out the branches that are out of focus on top of his body. Nice pic though.

I love the bird but again it seems a bit bright to me .. which brings be to the conclusion it could well be my laptop screen.

all of them are great shots, now I have swung back to wanting this lens again! Only 6 months til my birthday

The bird and the last ones are excellent, just my sort of photos!

Although saying that, none of them are bad

thank you very much but there was some croping though only the butterfly and the flower arent cropped, the wolf was heavily cropped and I need to check on the bird I aint sure about it...

I've some other shots with the butterfly taken with a flash and in such manner that the background wasn't lit so it's black. I will upload some of those too, I just didn't want to stuff it full with a lot of the same stuff.

I was tempted too to clone it out but I didn't found it too distracting and it gives you a foreground, like looking through the bushes or something like that.
We all have differend taste and I'm glad for that.

And the bird is against the bright side but it works I think

It's really a fine lens, it's the one that is standard on the lens if it's in my bag. May I ask what did you swung away of not wanting it?

Would you mind explaining a little more?, what you did and why?

I tried adding a new layer to one of my photos set to soft light and opacity of 30%. Although I was only judging from the screen I couldn't see any difference when I turned the layer off and on again.

No problem Kris but it's all my opinion so I don't know if I'm right or not.

It adds contrast mostly but it also makes the colour a bit intenser I believe, it just brings more live to the photo it seems.
Just set the layer at 100% you can clearly see what it does but I'm the man of the subtle things so I bring it just down to the point you hardly see it but the photo looks just bit more livly too me.
A soft light layer really do wonders with HDR because they look so flat most of the time.
If you invert the soft light layer it gives the reverse effect btw.

It actually works like I said, I've never looked it up but just played with layers and see what it does.
