D-BG4

I'm looking for a D-BG4 grip for my newly acquired K-5. I would like a genuine Pentax model but the copies on ebay from just £40+ are very tempting. Previous posts suggested the main difference was lack of weather proofing. Has anyone experience of using both and could tell me why I should resist and hold out for a decent s/h version of the real thing?

I don't know about the Pentax item, but I have one of the £40 copies and it works just fine. I've never had any issues with it.

I have owned both, whilst the copies are ok, the originals are just built so much better.

I had a K200d with a Pentax grip, when I moved to a K7 and K5 I tried 3rd party grips but they just did not measure up in terms of quality and feel when compared to the Pentax originals.

Both my 3rd party grips made way for used D-BG4s and to be honest, it was worth every penny.

Thanks guys - I may give one of the £40 copies a try until I see a s/h Pentax one at a reasonable price.

Be very careful with the little tag for opening the battery compartment. On the 3rd party grip I have it was very thin and soon broke off. Luckily I was able to use the tag from the AA battery cradle.

I had a copy and it all worked well except for the front e-dial when I was on AV and set the dial for EV compensation. It would start off Ok but would then jump back 4 stops before jumping again. I would have to set EV compensation on the camera as the dial on the grip was so flaky. I managed to get a genuine Pentax grip from http://www.flashcamera.co.uk
