Cumbrian Diversity

Evening all

Here are a few more images from a recent Lakes trip. I've tried to include some different types of landscapes here to give a taste of the diversity available within the Lake District. Taken with a mixture of the K-x, K-5, Pentax-M 28mm F3.5 and Pentax DA 16-45, most with a tripod and Hitech ND Grad.

You've done well here David. Some very nice shots. I was going to pick a favourite or two, but I can't. A favourite or five maybe ... lol. Well done

Ullswater mono is my favourite smashing! could see that on my wall

4 and 7 are stunners! I really like 5 too...

Something distracts me in the first but I can't put a finger on it... Might be the natural curve of the landscape... Not sure...

Deffo a lovely set though... I need to get out to the lakes again soon...

A wonderful set! My favorites are number 6+7. The Lake District is high on my wish list for future trips to the UK

A really lovely series, #4 & 6 are my favourites.

I'm not sure that the ND Grad is not spoiling one or two of those shots - #2 is the strongest example with the top of the frame darkened to such an extent that it is almost compressing the shot into less space and is an obvious darkened line across the top of the frame. Maybe a polariser would do a better job ?

I vote for Ullswater mono. Nice balance, and the very clear reflection of the mast makes it.

First of all, I would like to express my thanks to everyone who's taken the time and trouble to comment on my images. It's great to get this feedback and gives me some confidence that I might be improving a bit!

Well spotted Kevin, I agree with you 100% about the ND Grad. The particular shot you mention was with a 0.9 grad which was probably a little strong. Before I got the Hitech grads, I used to always use a polariser and this helps, but doesn't sufficiently balance the land and sky enough. Funnily enough, I also have a set of really cheap Chinese ND grads and these can sometimes work better than the Hitechs as they give a more subtle toning to the upper part of the sky. The other lesson is to use a 0.6 or 0.3 as these are sufficient in most circumstances.
