I can think of one near where I live and will go and photograph it soon In the meantime here's one I did last month high up in the Pennines on the border between Cumbria and North Yorkshire at Aisgill, the summit of the Settle-Carlisle Railway. The train is a scheduled service train from Skipton to Appleby being hauled by Britain's most modern steam loco, Tornado.

Tornado.

Many thanks for taking part, David.
It's great shot and I'm hoping they will still be running some steam services when we visit the area in the Autumn ?
You also reminded me that high ground is also a good place to see several counties at once.
Local to us there are places where we can see Hampshire and Oxfordshire from Berkshire.
Best regards
Peter

Peter, Just how far you can se from high ground always fascinates me. Great views I have enjoyed are from the top of the Malvern Hills on the Worcs/Hereford border. When its clear you can see the Black Mountains of South Wales, the Midlands plain receding up the Vale of Evesham, the Shropshire Hills and almost the whole length of the Cotswolds. Also the Forest of Dean.
From Carter Bar on the England/Scotland Border you get a fantastic view north across the Borders and from Hartside Height in the Northern Pennines you look across the expanse of the Eden valley to the Lake District, the Solway Firth and the high hills of Galloway in Scotland.
As for steam train runs in the North during the autumn, there's bound to be some. Check out UKsteaminfo.

Good comments about high ground, David.
You've given plenty of locations for other Forum Members to post shots from now
And thanks for the info on UKsteaminfo.

In my local case this is the Thames which separates Oxfordshire from Berkshire.
I've posted one 'cross county' shot taken yesterday and another is included here.
This one is taken further upstream from Mapledurham Lock looking back towards the Mill shown in the Gallery shot.
Mapledurham Church and House are behind the Mill, on the right, and some cottages in Mapledurham Village can be seen through the trees on the left.
The white sided vessel is The African Queen, a hotel/restaurant boat which is kept here during the winter months before making cruises up to London during the season.
What can our other Forum Members offer - THAT is the challenge !
