Crop rate

I quite often see "100% crop".

How is this figure arrived at?

If, for example, I cropped exactly the left half of a picture, what would the crop rate be?

Is it a linear or an area thing?

Thanks,

Coker.

It just means fully zoomed in on your monitor to the 100% view.

It means that 1 pixel in the photo is 1 pixel on screen. This means zooming in further will give no additional detail.
