Contrast Control numbers

Can anyone tell me what the 1/1 2/3 etc. numbers mean when I'm using a 360FGZ in contrast control mode, I realise it's something to do with the flash ratio but which number corresponds with which flash?

I believe the first number refers to the Master and the second number refers to the Slave. I've only got one P-TTL flash though so I've never confirmed that 100%.

Is the pop-up on the K10D not P-TTL, I was hoping I could use my 360FGZ wirelessly off camera with the pop-up as master and use contrast control, am I right in thinking that?

From what I have read, contrast control, (where the output of two or more flashes is controlled) is only available when the flash unit(s) are hard wired with off camera flash cords etc

Retired at last - now all that time for photography - you would think: wink:

The manual is not very clear about that if you read about the restrictions of the contrast flash mode at page 74 it says you can use the build-in flash.

This makes of course sense if you can use the build-in flash as master in P-TTL mode you need some control over how the flash power is distributed between the flash-units that are used or do I say something strange here?

Sounds like it's a bit of a 'Black Art' this flash photography

Contrast control with the pop-up flash works only with a cord, but you can get the same effect by varying the flashes output with flash compensation.

Found this link: http://pttl.mattdm.org/feature:contrast-control-sync

You know, the more I read this, the more I'm confused
Think I'll have to go and experiment!

It's where you have multiple flash guns all firing. You probably don't want them all at the same level - so contrast control allows you to set the ratio of each flash to give some contrast to the scene (rather than being totally flat and lifeless).
