Ok. I can't be bothered anymore - this discussion is getting too philosophical for my liking. Let's all get out there and create the images we like.
As for the competitions - it is the winner's privilege to pick a theme and to make the judgments, whether we like it or not. I, for one, is quite happy to let the practice continue.

For example a pinhole doesn't have a focal point and it doesn't converge or diverge light which is one of the principles a lens does.

It's also quite funny that we have a discussing about what's a photo and what not on a photographic forum, you would have thought everyone would think the same.
I'm willing to agree I'm wrong if someone can explain in a way that makes sense that shows how some artist can win the IPA (international photography awards) while they aren't photos.
