Competition Rules

Wow this got some people talking. I wasn't going to enter but my mum was thinking about it and asked me what I thought re the terms and conditions.
The fact that all entrants become their property seems well over the top and the fact that all rights are being handed over for all photos entered is absurd.
Remember guys check the small print before entering any competitions.
Would it be a good idea to have a name and shame section for companies that hold competitions with such rules, and therefore hel other Pentaxians to avoid them like the plague.

The artist has a right to object, but his means of redress is governed by the laws of the country; and as far as I know there is no law in the UK stopping me from burning poor Tracey's bed however much she might object.
However, as I said, she might sue me for damage to her reputation if I exhibited her work after altering it in some way - so I would be ill-advised to make the bed (or then to lie in it!)

This may horrify you, but in Victorian times when people painted more, I can tell you that the well off would buy a painting, maybe a Gainsborough, reframe it, cut it down and maybe even repaint parts of it to suit them better.
If you want to read this for yourseves, I refer you to the Letters of Edward FitzGerald, which contain many such instances.

Cripes Stefan who cares? Go and take some photographs. I only chipped in with some light hearted information I had at my fingertips as it affects my business. Are you sure that there is no subsequent statute or case law that affects the interpretation of the act you refer us to?
The rules of the competition ask you give up those rights which you are at liberty to do.

Mike I truly have nothing to do today and if I don't look it up I will think about it all the time where I got it from so it give me some peace of mind and that's worth something
It's more useful then most of the talk in the K20D vs D300 discussion, at least I know a bit more about the law now.
Btw went out yesterday and going to do tomorrow (aircrafts) and have a photograph day planned on a Sunday (race cars) and a Saturday will be filled by my girlfriend so I'm full till a Monday.

Stefan, report back when you have read and understood every word of the Act.
S. 80 gives the artist the right not to have his work published in an objectionable way. Provided I don't make a public spectacle of it, I see nothing in the Act to stop me burning Tracey's bed.

About the law it says this in the begining
has the right in the circumstances
mentioned in this section not to have his work subjected to derogatory treatment.
So althose points stated there need to be follwed right so also point 2.
I do read it correct right?
Mhmm indeed George but can I help it that she is young and your not, maybe you're young inspirit but there are limits.
But really George like I've seen you in conversation I think you're a great guy and honest so I'm sure she would be safe and in good hands with you.
Didn't you work as doorman(?) at a pub or something like that or do I've someone else in mind now

No, I don't think so. In fact, reading it again, I see that the author has even fewer rights than you suppose because you are confusing ownership and authorship. See S. 2 and S.10.About the law it says this in the begining

But my point was that derogatory treatment only applies if it is "published", ie: shown to the public. What I do to Tracey's bed in private is nobody's business but my own. {cue silly comments from the usual suspects}.
