Coming over from the funky side...

I've just sold up my Fuji S5 Pro and Zeiss 50 because the old girl was a bit on the slow side, tethering was a bit of a mare, manual focus was doing my head in and the conventional upgrade path seemed boring and expensive.

I've struck lucky with a nearly-new K-5 at a half decent price - arriving Friday - so I'm looking forward to seeing what the weather is like in Pentax land.

I've just put an offer in on a 16-45mm F4 on the classifieds so I have something to play with and I'll be looking out for some primes now.

Any advice would be very welcome indeed and greatly appreciated.

By the way, sorry about my username - what was I smoking?

Welcome

The 16-45 is a fine lens.

Sounds like you could in the early stages of LBA

Thanks Hyram. No idea what LBA is but I'm sure I'm an acute sufferer

Having read up a bit about the 17-70, I'm having second thoughts about the 16-45.

The first proper lens in my sights is the 77 but I see you went for the 70. Any particular reason?

LBA = lens buying addiction

I read reviews on both the 70 & the 77 and concluded that with apparently similar performance and the 77 about 50% more, the 70 made more sense.

Having said that, the 77 is considered to be part of the 'holy trinity' - the FA 31, FA 43 and FA 77.

I bought the 31 much later, from a Forum Member.

Ooh, there's a holy trinity? From what I've read so far, the 32 is the holy grail. I want in.

You smoking something you shouldn't again? Size does matter, it's 31mm.

Welcome to the forum.

Update: I bought a 16-45mm on here today and hope to receive both K-5 and first lens tomorrow. It's going to feel like a long fay at work.

It's even worse on the K-5 as there is no official tethering software available.

I really should research better I discovered the no-tether thing after ordering the K-5. I quickly ordered an EyeFi card to see if that would be an adequate substitute. My plan is to shout raw + medium Jpeg and have the jpeg sent to an Aperture hot folder on the mac wirelessly.

The Eye Fi card is sitting unopened on my desk while I decide whether I'm going to stick with the K-5 or not. So far it's 50:50. IQ is impressive and there are plenty of good things but at the mo I'm struggling with just how teeny it is - I might need a hand transplant.

Put one of the cheap Chinese grips on it and see if that is any better. The camera is too small for me as well but with a grip it's just about right.

There is some tethering software HERE .. not as comprehensive as Canikons but it seems to work ok.

I think you are right Mike. Btw, I'm struggling to set white balance when I'm in SEL focus mode. What am I missing?
