I've read some where that:-

they say mono prints will always have a colour cast because it prints with colour to get the tones

I wasn't using the colour ink

But were you using coloured paper - i.e. paper meant for coloured prints? That can give a colour cast to mono prints.
Funnily enough I've been testing a range of papers, particularly two sample packs of Brilliant Museum and Brilliant Superior that I got from Calumet. The Museum Silver seems to be the stuff for B+W but all had the magenta look under tungsten, maybe its the Kodak ink. Rough and Ready conclusions were that all results were good but the colours with Kodak ink and their quite expensive Ultra Premium paper were more saturated - like Kodachrome ("Give me those nice bright colours" as Paul Simon sang)

Sorry to diverge, Dave.

Now this is really OT so apologies in advance... I have been using up my remaining K64. One roll I sent off in September arrived back today along with a roll I sent off in February!

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.
