Colour cast with K5

My K5 appears to have developed a colour cast - is this something that happens or am I just unlucky?
May have to bin it and go back to the old faithful k10d!

Unusual - is it possible you've accidentally changed one of the settings? Colour temperature maybe?

Hi, I’ve checked and reset all of the settings but still have the issue. All photos have a magenta cast the only way I’ve found to get rid of the cast is in Photoshop but it’s a bit of fiddly and takes time.

Is the magenta cast just with jpegs straight out of the camera or is it also in RAW files when they are opened with a RAW processor? Clutching at straws here, but you never know what ideas a question might throw up.

Yes the cast is with jpegs straight from the camera, I’ve not checked if I get the same issue with RAW files.
I’ll give that a try, thanks for the thought.

Have you been using it for a lot of shots at a very high ISO?

If it can't be fixed don't bin it. Perhaps you (or someone else) might be able to use it as a monochrome camera.

No, mostly set at 200, I’ve not really pushed to high levels.

I think the first thing to look at is whether or not a digital filter has been accidentally switched on? Also perhaps try doing a Firmware update.
Best regards, John

Could you put straight from camera image files with all EXIF data intact somewhere where we can download it? Preferably both RAW and JPG of the same picture. Someone might be able to spot something in the EXIF data which points to the cause of the problem.

Are you absolutely sure that the white balance settings are correct? I've occasionally found myself unintentionally changing white balance instead of something else because I pressed the wrong button initially then continued with a couple of presses through habit/muscle memory before looking at the rear screen.

And if it turns out that there really is a problem with the camera and it's not due to a rogue setting, is it possible to correct the magenta cast by adjusting the camera's white balance settings?

Have you tried a total reset? The reason that I ask is that a few years ago my K5 would only shoot in monochrome caused I think, by the sensor being overwhelmed when I inadvertently pointed the camera towards the sun when I took a shot. Resetting the back to factory settings did the trick. Mind you, it was a bit of a pain re-customising the camera!!

Hi Michael, no I’ve not tried a full factory reset, I wasn’t sure if I would need to reload the software if I undertook a full reset.

When I reset my K 5 the firmware remained intact, so to speak
