The split image will not work properly with very long lenses and perhaps with macro work as well. Typically it will black out and not be useable. Just focus using the general screen area - there are plain screens provided for those who need this type all the time. It isn't a fault, just an optical fact of life.

Hi,
You haven't said which camera you are using. If it's an MX or an LX, you can get a screen which is better for this type of work. I prefer the plain ground glass screen but you can get a split image one for the LX which will not black out in macro work.
