Get:
Cotton Buds, White Vinegar, 360-grade wet-&-dry abasive sheet, pencil.
Cotton bud well soaked in the vinegar will kill the corrosion. Dry cotton buds will clean out the mess. This may be enough.
If the contacts are badly corroded, cut a strip of W&D and fold it over the pencil end. Put this into the battery compartment and use in a semi rotary movement on the contacts. More wet cotton buds then dry cotton buds.
Stick new batteries in, switch on and leave. It may take a while for the internal capacitor to revive - if a "flash ready" light come on, pop the test button and repeat. If you can hear the whine as the capacitor charges, then you have succeeded.
After you have done this once, you will always check the battery compartments regularly - won't you?

I'd add some isopropanol for cleaning off the vinegar as otherwise it will leave a sticky and conducive residue.

Wondering if it's possible to get them back into a working condition and if there are any good tips and tricks to ease the process....... I think it is worth repairing the flash as it is one thing I don't have!
