Come now. If you want a risk-free existence, that's fine, but please don't seek to impose your own fears on others.
I see absolutely nothing wrong with people joining in order to sell stuff. Not everybody can or wants to use Ebay, and coming to a specialist forum to sell something is surely a sensible thing to do. If you think about it, if you were selling something dodgy, would you try to sell it to experts or to Joe Public?
And how is it more dangerous to deal with a new member than to buy from a classified ad in the local paper?

And you are repeating your prejudices about Ebay. If you used it, you would know that it is not nearly as dodgy as you think.
Just remember the golden rule. Don't buy from people who write LENS with an extra E!

I am always deeply suspicious of people selling camera gear who cannot take a correctly exposed and focussed photograph
you don't have to be mad to post here
but it does help

So in the situation were A N Other registers as a user here and offers a piece of gear that another member here has a good idea, or even knows, that the item is to be steered clear of, and says so to avoid another member from wasting their money. What is likely to happen from a moderators point of view.
I can't speculate on what might happen in a hypothetical situation that may never occur, but if I really knew something was amiss I would send a PM to the moderator who would then take the necessary action. So in the situation were A N Other registers as a user here and offers a piece of gear that another member here has a good idea, or even knows, that the item is to be steered clear of, and says so to avoid another member from wasting their money. Posting accusations in threads is not the way to go.

I can see the issue of the K7 for sale hasn't died yet . The more I read about it the more I find interesting the ability of some members to let their misconceptions run wild.

This particular one tops the list . But I am not saying anything now, will just sit back and enjoy the comments. If anyone was interested in knowing any more details about what went on during the meeting they could have asked me privately, like some of the members did and I replied with an extensive in depth reply of each and every aspect of the meeting. Inclusive with one of the members I had a phone conversation and kept the member in the loop.

I think the recent K-7 for sale thread is a good example. Amin may well have met with the seller, but he didn't hand over any money. Who's to know that the seller didn't have a couple of mates waiting round the corner. It does happen. For that reason I think Amin was unusually dumb to go ahead with the meet.
Obviously you didnt see the thread a while back where I congratulated Amin on getting his Karate black belt

We are all entitled to our opinions on this forum, as long as it doesn't offend the recipient.
it is still possible to be opinionated without being rude and offensive.

Like most threads these days ... infact, like the original K-7 thread in question We seem to be wandering away from the original subject matter
Hmmm, that just shows how easy it is to go off thread because I just noticed the original subject matter has really not got much to do with the K-7

Care to elaborate please?

I think he was just putting the "dumb" comment in context.
And I don't think Mannesty meant to be offensive. He just thought you acted with too little regard for your own safety. People who don't live in London often think the place is more dangerous than it actually is.

Amin, sorry, my mistake, I was merely reflecting on the comment that was suggesting you were being less than wise.

George,I think that your last comment was fair and well said, can I say that I have had some bad experience with ebay, those experiences stay with me,and I do not have the confidence to use ebay anymore.
Of course, I hope my "prejudices" haven't offended anyone on the forum.

Chris

Lets decrease the risk, not increase it.
Personally, I'm sick of 'dodgy' dealings- look at Ebay!!! Lets not go that way please
