I am still doubting if I will buy a new camera or not. I currently have a *ist-DS which has served me very well since I bought it in december 2005.
There are a couple of things which would make me go for an upgrade and that is shake reduction, higher dynamic range and an increase in resolution (usefull for cropping).
The possibility to use a battery grip is something I would like as well.
So there are two possible units to consider, the K10 and the K20. I can get a K10 for Euro 575,00 and the K20 goes for Euro. 919,00. These prices are for the body.

Is the K10 still a worthwhile upgrade to the DS or is it better to save up a little more and get a K20D instead?

The K20D plus the kit 18-55 is already available in the UK for the same price as I paid for the K10D in Jan 2007.

I think in your position I'd hold off a little longer... if you're even contemplating the K20D, you can't be that far off it.

Keep saving, and you probably won't have to accumulate as much more as you think, before either you can resist no longer, or the price comes down a bit more, or both.

I went from a DS to a K10D, and it does feel like a worthwhile upgrade.

If you look at an A3 prine from the *istDS it looks great. If you were to put a similar print from the K10D next to it, you would clearly see the difference. More detail, better sharpness and a more photo-realistic reproduction.

I would expect a similar jump from the K10D to the K20D, but I haven't experienced that yet.

K10D is a worthwhile upgrade from DS. I did this and passed my DS on to my wife. She's just started using a K10D of her own. At the price they are right now, it was a no-brainer to get one. She noticed the improvement immediately and is surprised by the change.

I have no experience of K20D so cannot comment.

Difficult decision indeed. I pondered the K10 a while but as I had my *istD since 2003 and am most likely to jump another few generations I went for the K20. I'm sure that both are a big step up and whatever you decide you will be happy with it. Considering that your decision is not so difficult after all.

I think that the K20 has a few pixels more than would be ideal and that made me hesitate. However, so far I am very satisfied with the results.

Cheers,
