I've mostly used telephotos up till now for street stuff - initially the DA55-300 but nowadays the Sigma 50-150 f2.8, which blows the former out of the water (up to 150, that is:wink. The street purists turn their noses up at anything longer than normal, so would be appalled at my choice of lens. The argument they make - which is valid - is that for street stuff to really work you need an immediacy that wider lenses brings (both because of the perspective and because you are closer to the action). However, I don't think you can dismiss telephotos as street lenses - amongst other things they allow you to compose more structured images with less of the distracting elements that WAs include. I've started using wider lenses more often now, but the 50-150 definitely has a place in my street armory.

I guess the 18-250 covers all bases - apart from low light - though, as you note there are some optical trade offs. Still, the optics aren't quite so critical with street stuff as they are for other subjects.

A few of these could be improved IMHO with bette cropping. Agree with the suggested crop on Pensive.

Pensive Too and Rickshaw are the two I like best.

A super set of images. As has been mentioned before there are some real life affirming scenes. Definitely more smiles (real ones) than I would normally see when out and about.

I forgot to say AG - if you like CWyatt's stuff, you should check out Karmazyniello. Perhaps you haven't come across his photos here as he only posts very irregularly. IMO he's the most talented photographer I've been introduced to through PUF. He has an uncanny eye and is clearly also a damned effective pp-er.

Here's a link to his webpage: link

I'm not going to pick out individual shots, the set as a whole is superb. Its a great documentary of Indian street life.

Thanks for the comments! It seems a general consensus that Pensive should be cropped, so I will give it a try. Thanks for that link Dr Mhuni, I will check it out later when I get back from work (got three days of groundschool)
I was pleased that finally I got some street shots I am happy with, and yes, the purists may say I should be using a wide prime, but I like the versatility of the 18-250, so will continue with it. It's nice to have that huge range; some shots are not possible at wide angle, so why miss them? Not the most discrete lens though My favourite street shot so far was my entry in the weekly competition, taken in Osaka, which was shot at 250mm
