I got an MV1 not long ago and shot a roll in it - it was a lovely camera to use. Unfortunately, without warning the ISO ring just came apart before I could get any more use out of it. I haven't checked yet if it's repairable.
The M series cameras, except the MX, are very nice to use but reliability is not their forté. The most popular M camera, the ME Super, is hard to find in fully working condition. The MX on the other hand is much better built.
I think my biggest bargain for a Pentax camera was my second MX which I picked up with an M 50mm f/1.4 for the total price of €19. After selling off the lens (I already have a copy) that works out as -€66 for the camera

My wife bought an MX in a charity shop for £5. I have several ME Supers I use now and again. I took a brace of them to NYC last October.

It is an illusion that photos are made with the camera… they are made with the eye, heart and head. Henri Cartier-Bresson
Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

The later M-series cameras can be real bargains, if you can find one in 100% working condition.
They are a good alternative for folks who can't bear the thought of carrying a point & shoot.
My choice for a cheap take-anywhere SLR is a Pentax P3n or P30T, of which I have several.

I was given an A3 for nothing. They are difficult to give away... but actually quite fun to use if not very discreet.

I was luck enough to pick this Pentax MV body (No Lens) for £7. Over the last 5 years it has travelled with me around Europe and on several to the USA, no worry of loss or damage to my LX or MX. It is often an underrated camera but I've found it to be very reliable.
Has anyone else picked up a bargain Pentax Camera?
