Cheapest K-7 Pre-order price?
I've always thought the moral argument for VAT is pretty shaky. What gives a government the right to tax us on what we do with our own money, apart from the fact of course that they can...
This surprises me somewhat as we usually follow you guys with pricing and more times than not it is significantly higher in price than what you are paying.
Take the new DA*60-250 for example over here you can't get it for less than £1100, yet you guys are paying £899 for it. So what gives ::

Clarky, swap you a DA*60-250mm f4 for a Pentax K-7
If we were both gauranteed not to get hit with taxes and whatever else they want to tack on, then we could work something out.

I know this does not mean much to you guys over there. But a number of high street retailers over here are listing it on thier websites for delivery mid July, The cheapest I have seen is £740 with Kit lens (NOT the newer WR version) and the most expensive is £986 with the same kit lens.

I would expect the K7 to settle at around £750 allowing room for a K30 to slot in at around £500

Don't forget that some are straightforward though.

Richard, all our Sigma and Pentax gear come through C R Kennnedy's, They have a monopoly on it.
John & Shim, So what are you saying, that the prices they have on thier websites are just a con ?? If thats the case then it makes no sense at all. Why would they list the lens at 1100quid which isn't in the country yet and on the same page list the K-7 at 740quid.
Well I have dealt with some of these retailers before and that is not the standard practise that I have encountered.

It's a bit like them saying "You paid £500? I could have done that for £450," whilst secure in the knowledge that they don't have to. Some salespeople use all sorts of tricks.
Don't forget that some are straightforward though.
I don't know how it works in England, but here (Québec), once a bill of sale has been issued, it is like a contract. Both parties have to comply with the terms of the bill of sale. And, when you give a deposit for something not in store, the store has to issue a bill of sale depicting all the conditions of the sale, i.e. deposit + total amont due + taxes and so on.
I remember one electrical retailer (no longer in business) who used to deliberately quote very low prices on stuff they hadn't got. When the customer went to another shop that had stock, they would complain that it's x pounds cheaper at Joe Soaps. If the salesman was wise he would answer "Come back when we are out of stock and you can have it at Joe Soaps price"
That's why "Price Match" stores insist that the other store actually have the item in stock before they will price match.
