The 100mm macro at £350 seems OK as well or is it a different model?

Looks like the same model as SRS have for 175 quid more although I hope PC World's description is slightly wrong:

Closest Focusing Distance - 303 m

I've heard of back focusing but that is a bit much.

Park cameras are advertising the 50-200mm at £99 out of interest but the bundle still makes this attractive when you consider body only of the Km is £299

BTW Curry's, PC World and Dixons are the same company so they will all have the same products and pricing

I know , but they have different cashback and voucher deals if anyone is planning to go that route.

I just checked this offer out instore at my local Curry's superstore and unfortunately I think they ruin an attractive deal by putting plastic mount lenses on it. The 50-200mm in the offer is NOT the same as the one priced normally at £150-175 with a metal mount

I believe the KM kits originally came with the DAL versions of the 18-55 and 50-200. These had plastic lens mounts and no lenshoods

...and no quick shift. I just bought a 18-55mm L from SRS for £35 (theory is that at some point I will sell the K10D and it will go better with a kit lens, as I didn't buy one at the time.) This looks like it was de-bundled from a K-m kit as it also has no box! Not at all bothered at that price and the exif shows it is the mk II model - indeed a short bout of pixel-peeping seems to confirm this, with good sharpness in the corners. Never know, I might put it to use rather than mothballing it!

Well I got a GX-10 twin kit from park 2 weeks ago for £369 delivered, and with the metal mount lenses too. (price online is now £399, but I said I had seen it in a mag advert at £369 so they honored this, didn't mention the mag was 2 months old :wink

There have been interminable complaints in this forum about "bad copies" of expensive lenses. I've yet to see one from someone who's plastic lens mount has failed. I bought what turned out to be a DAL 50-200 lens when the advertising led me to believe it was the original Quick Focus metal-mount lens complete with lens cap. It wasn't. But I was reassured by the gurus on this forum that the two were optically identical. And they seem to be. Sadly, a lens hood for the DAL costs nearly as much as the lens itself. Seems like a golden opportunity for a down-at-heel plastic-moulding company in Britain to diversify. It couldn't cost them more than 50p to produce one.

Al - I have to agree that I don't see the problem with the lens optically at all. The exclusion of the hood does seem strange though - the end is designed for it and, as you say, this bit of plastic can't be that musch to add as they're already churning out hoods for the "normal" copies. Still, I think you've answered my question about buying one. Just don't point towards the sun!
