Cheap cards

I just bought a new SD card for 20 odd quid! it was a good one and it was about a quarter of the price of my original one so I thought I got a good deal until this morning I got an email from ebuyer flogging Crucial SD cards for as little as 2.99 inc vat. DOH!
I don't know if the following is allowed but I don't have any interest except to pass on a cracking deal so:
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/105711 - 1 GB card
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/105712 - 2 GB card

I don't suppose they are very fast but they would get you out of a scrape.

I've decided to only buy reputable make SD cards in future.
I've had two "cheap" SD cards over the last two years that have just stopped working or had intermittent faults making them unreliable.
I had one fail on a Photo shoot at the weekend, very annoying.

I'll have a look at these Crucial cards, thanks.

To be honest, I wouldn't go for them. But it's useful to know all the same.

If I want cheap, I get the Kingston cards from Picstop (10x write, 30x read). If I want faster, then the Kingston Elite Pro are cool (£8.99 for 2Gb, 50x write & read).

But for the K10D I only use Sandisk Extreme III cards (again from Picstop). £12.99 for a 2Gb 133x card. Also bought a 4Gb Extreme III SDHC card for £23.99 (came with a fast little USB reader too. That's a good thing, because every other card reader I have won't read SDHC).

Just cancelled my order with Play as I can get the faster Extreme III version from Picstop for only about £2 more (delivered). Thanks to Mattmatic for the heads up.

Computer active issue 260 7th. to 20th. February good article on "Fake memory cards, how to spot inferior lookalikes" page 89. If you buy from ebay be carefull even SanDisk Extreme IV 4GB & 8GB have been found to be fakes. If you contact the manufacturer they can check the products serial number and confirm if it is genuine. I usually get any cards I want from either 7day shop or My Memory both in the channel islands. Reliable, Reputable and cheap.

Toshiba 133X 2GB: £11.48 including postage from Hong Kong eBay seller "flashman852". No duty or VAT payable as it's under the limit.

I've bought several Toshiba high-speed cards from this seller over the last couple of years, and they've all been reliable and genuinely fast.

I don't know about their SD cards but Crucial make great memory cards for computers. Stick "Crucial" in google and have a look at their website.

I agree, I figured the card examples I posted were a good make, as they are a recognised brand, but the examples I posted may may be a little slow that's all.
eBuyer also do different makes and faster cards at low prices, and I can recommend the store.
I don't work for them... really!

The cards I bought yesterday before I saw this ad were Extreme III 4GB with the reader. but I still feel I just threw away a tenner...enough for a couple of old Manual lenses

Just got this from Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000F31TNY/ref=pe_5301_10151311_pe_ar_t6

Sandisk Extreme III 2Gb for £8.19

Which sounded good, hence the post, but then I realised it's from Amazon Marketplace, not Amazon itself, and postage is £5.00

I only use SanDisk (not quite sure why) and tend to buy small items like this from 7 Day Shop.

Items under £18 from 7 Day Shop are VAT free, which makes the p. and p. cost less painful

Agreed, I've only ever used Crucial memory in my last three Macs and never had a problem. Good prices too.

I have always used Crucial ram in my PCs and it's always been superb. Almost without exception their RAM sticks are good for at least one speed grade faster than they are badged and at one point I had a couple of sticks of PC100 CAS 3 RAM which happily did 147MHz CAS 2 (for the uninitiated, CAS 2 is faster than CAS 3).

I have no reason to expect their SD cards would be anything other than exceptional quality, they have a name to uphold. For PC RAM I would rank them easily above Kingston.
you don't have to be mad to post here

but it does help
