Tried messing with the custom colour setting on the K20D the other day, I seem to recal someone saying the "bright" setting produced good results.

This looks a bit over the top to me, what do you guys think?

Nice catch. Certainly not over the top for me. I think "bright" is a good setting on a dull overcast day.

I was rather hoping you guys would agree with me I'm still not convinced that the colours dont look over-cooked, especially the greens which almost look radioactive

After posting this last night I decided to try adjusting the colour, I had to reduced the saturation by 20% to get something I thought was acceptable.

Maybe I like Pentax because the basic setting on the camera gives me what I want

If you compare the two versions the latter one certainly does look more natural. On it's own the first version doesn't look too bad, though you are right with the greens and their radioactive look.

Could it be that the many Canon pictures we look at over the time (not to speak of high-saturation TV series like CSI) slowly corrupt our good taste?

Some posters over on depressing reviews did say that they crank up saturation when submitting to the PPG. Apparently it does help to survive the peer review. (I haven't adjusted the saturation for my submissions but manipulated gamma and contrast in SilkyPix, resulting sometimes in (as you put it) radioactive colours so that I have to reduce saturation a bit).

Maybe it is just us getting old...

My laptop monitor isn't calibrated so I shouldn't comment, but I will. I think the second shot is a little nicer although I would not have complained at having the first one!

The 2nd one for me it seems more natural, but the first is acceptable, I find the bright setting is over the top for shooting Jpegs but on the rare occasions I shoot jpegs I use Natural.

I like strong colours but anyway, very nice shot.

Thanks for the feedback folks, it seems you mostly agree that the toned down version is more natural. I'm going to try a 20% reduction to saturation on other stuff I shot that day, especially a Goldfinch that looked like it had been painted because the yellow and red were so intense.

Looks like some experimentation with the colour settings may be in order
