Cashback Barcodes

I've just taken delivery of a DA70mm f2.4 Limited, bought over the internet from PurelyGadgets Ltd who are based in London. When I tried to fill in the Pentax cashback form I came to this "The barcodes should begin with 0027075xxxxx or 027075xxxxx" the bar code on my box starts 496133. I've spoken to a lady at Pentax and Chocolate Fireguards come to mind. Although she did say they were not aware of pirated copies of this lens. I should also say the lens seems to work fine in all respects including the correct designation on Photome. Can anyone think how you could get a Pentax lens without a Pentax barcode?

Very mysterious. Are enough 70mm f2.4 lenses sold to make pirating it profitable? I wouldn't have thought so, but who knows.

Probably more likely that your lens comes from a different supply route and therefore has a different code. A "grey import" in other words.
Best regards, John

I spoke to Customer Services at Purely Gadgets before NOT buying a camera from them. Although they didn't come straight out and say they're 'grey importers' they did say they source from many different suppliers and offer their own guarantee instead of the manufacturers one.

Caveat emptor

I hear what your saying, and the cost of the lens was less than from other dealers even after cash back so i'm still in pocket. I would have thought the lady at Pentax should have been able to say - your barcode comes from outside the offer area so is not eligable for Cashback or that PurelyGadgets was not a recognised reseller.

It's a trade off isn't it Barrie? Up side is I think Purely Gadgets offers a 5 year warranty on lenses?

Yes according to the website 5 years on all lenses. The bit that worried me at first was the fact that the two barcode series are not in the same league. But I have calmed down after seeing some results from the lens.

Still, would have been nice to get the cashback as well

I'll have to keep an eye open for offers in North America and Australasia
