Capturing wildlife (camera wise )

I have just ordered ( purchased ) the AF360FGZ flashgun and now await it's arrival by the mail man, but the question I would be intrested to know of is:
Capturing the movement of wildlife in mind, to which of the following would be more suitable?.....Flashgun set to the P-TTL auto mode or of the
camera set to the 'M' mode and the flash to HS ~ (high speed flash sync) mode , and if so, will I need to reset the flash mode on the camera?.

Ok, I would eventually by trial and error find the possible answer, but some insight would be most helpful.

The P-TTL will always issue a preflash. That's usually enough to scare away any wildlife before the main flash fires (and takes some milliseconds away too)

You'll have more control if you set the flash to "M" or "A". The body will know what's going on, but it's sensible to use Av mode and setup the aperture accordingly.

I somehow thought that the P-TTL setup would cause a reflash, and how right you are, a snapped twig and the woods are suddenly empty. ok for 'red-eye' but not for a fast capture..
Thanks for the tips I have in this instance made note of them for testing when the FG arrives....Long gone are the days of the Spotmatic II, Weston IV exposure meter and of FP flash bulbs... ...not forgetting a portable rangefinder...
