Lovely photo Judith It's even better at the large 1600 wide version you've posted. From memory this is easily my favorite of all the photos I've seen from you. Excellent subject matter nicely isolated, and a lovely background. Nice work, keep it up

Like Mhuni says, a slightly larger dof would make a slight improvement, as it stands the sharpest focus seems to be on the bird's neck/shoulder. Nevertheless it is still an excellent shot

Nice one Judith,
But as others have mentioned the shallow DOF takes the edge of the shot slightly.
Chris suggests a smaller aperture but at long focal lengths even this can still be a problem, what I would suggest is switching the camera to centre focus point and try to aim for the birds head, dont worry about framing the shot at this point, getting the focus spot on is all that matters and you can always crop later. In fact with this particular shot focusing on the birds head would have placed the bird in the lower left of the frame giving the illusion that the bird has somewhere to fly off to, and this is where I really complain about the shot as I feel its way too tight in the frame and I dont like the border...at all but that's just my personal taste, a small keyline around the image would have been OK for me.

Still a very good shot though

PS; I think the border may have worked better if there had been more space around the bird, as it is the two are competing with each other.

Really good shot Judith Ann, I am well impressed with your perseverance over this one. I agree with impotentspider regarding the frame and composition, I would make the bottom and sides a lot thinner, they detract from your cracking shot and makes the bird look trapped.

On this specific point, suppose what we'd seen originally had been a somewhat more thorough version of this.

I don't think I could have put my hand on my heart and said what I said before.
