You use the words "district council" as if it was possible for them to have any brains or common sense. You should know better

People often talk of putting "bums on seats" at a venue, or there is the Americanisation such as "Bowry Bum" so I don't think the word is bannable.
Otherwise, you might have had to moderate your own post away, and how embarassing would that be?

Not being an Englishman, I thought bum was a rather cosy word for your behind (or in Norwegian, the part of you being highest when picking blueberries) - certainly nothing to be offended by.
Bu these days it seems sooo important to be "politically correct".

I agree, bum is a cosy word. My 91 year old Mum will use it happily.
I was however shocked when my eighty year old aunt shouted 'silly arse' at a passing motorist - it me a while to realise she meant silly ass but was pronouncing it the posh way.

More likely that some petty pressure group has "got at" the district council and they've banned it in the interests of a quiet life.
Nike of course won't care - getting your advert banned is pretty much the best publicity you can get as suddenly all the local media are talking about it and your product has now acquired a bit of a rebel look.
The one that always gets me is how the mass media is quite happy to show people being killed in war zones but leaps six feet and screams if a costume gets ripped and a nipple shows. Rather skewed priorities there I'd have said!

The inconsistency of this Glasgow City Council decision is consistent with the wooly thinking of people who seek to 'protect' public morality. Much ruder words than that are used on television, in the cinema and in magazines. They say you can't print the word bum but I expect they allow photographs of bums to appear on posters in the city.
Newspapers often have a warped sensitivity to what causes public outrage. They use the initial letter of a swear word followed by dots or asterix so that the reader is left in no doubt about the identity of the word. Might as well print the word out in full, it's nothing that any child won't hear at school or in the youth club.
The real obscenity, which most media don't shy away from, is violence.

C'mon Glasgow I though we lived in the 21st century
Reminds me of a night class project I was given, a photo assignment on advertising Jeans, I got my brothers partner to pose topless (with her back to me:cry sat on a stool with her "bum" encased in very tight jeans, I then manipulated a Globe in place of the stool and added the caption "Hobo Jeans, Worn by Bums the World Over"

Bum is fine. Perhaps not for some underemployed council jobsworth. (the coalition have him on a list and are on their way, don't blink).

I only ask because Glasgow District Council has banned the latest Nike (or is it Reebok?) advert from display in this city because it contains the word.
Black Hackney Carriages, licensed by the same council carry all over ads for strip clubs.
