After a failed attempt a week or so ago, along with poor weather and work getting in the way, had a trip to Fairford this morning on the off chance of some B52 activity.

Take off K3iii with Pentax 70 - 200 F2.8 - 200 ISO - 1/500 to 1/640 sec / For landing I changed lens to the 150 - 450 @ 450 ( effective 695mm ) 200 ISO - 1/400 sec.

Just up

This aircraft had an issue on landing and the crew got out very quickly once the aircraft had come to a halt, with full fire attendance, blocking the runway for 30 mins, looks to have been overheating brakes. ( heavy crop )

Shame the light isn't there but the second one shows the power and size of the aircraft nicely.

I was going to just post a picture of a red kite but wasn't sure if anyone would get the joke.

They really are big buggers aren't they Chris? On full power I imagine the sound would have had the ground shaking.

The fully extended flaps make it look even bigger, as well as more menacing. Overheating brakes on ultra heavies are not unknown.

Great shots.

Thanks John, the deployment would have been planed way before the current situation in Ukraine, but they have been flying close to the region on occasions and its clear they wish to be seen as the transponders have remained switched on.
