These were taken last year. Still going through hard drive. What do you think?

Emma

These are great. Lovely composition and a full range of tones.

I'd be inclined to attempt a much bolder "letter box" crop of number two to lose some of the shingle.

No.1 has a calm, serenity about it. Love the sky.

Muchos progress!

A.
Best wishes,

Andrew

Hi Emma,
You've been studying the art of B&W conversions, they are great. I agree with Andrew that the second one required a crop, and the crop is better.

Colin

This is another from the set. Is it too noisy?

Goodness me, Emma. I pop into town for an hour, come back and you've produced this! It is noisy but I don't worry about that in monochrome: it happened when you push the contrast a bit. I think it adds character like a fast old film like HP5.

Just run the dodge brush over the highlights in the sand at about 3% (make sure it's set to "highlights") it'll lift the foreground.

Best stuff,

A.
Best wishes,

Andrew

Dramatic viewpoint, Ems.

I should prefer to see just a little more of the peir: it's just too tantalising, I think.

Sky could do with the clouds being dodged to enhance their whiteness.

Could make a good print.

Emma,

"Tidy" is South Welsh for "Excellent shot!".

If you're really lucky, Gareth may call you "Butt" which is a great compliment!

Tidy butt [/quote]Told you: I think this means Gareth feels you've arrived as a bone fide photographer, Emms. Big moment!

Yes, that second verson is, in my opinion, much better. Look how the tones are more balanced between top and bottom. Gives it a real lift.

Now someone will say they prefer the original..which is actually fine!

Best stuff,
