Like the way you have captured the green algae on the HL bridge it just looks right. Not sure about the Tyne bridge, I think it drops too much and may have been better taken from higher up. Just my opinion of course

Thanks Stan. I particularly liked the Tyne Bridge, because its been photographed from just about every angle, but I can't recall this one. Maybe you've hit on the reason why

I like them both - the colours are also very nice in the second one

Thanks Stuey and Geordie - much appreciated.

Cleaned up the lamp post on the Tyne Bridge shot and have now moved it away from the edge of the frame

Hi Alan, these are both nice images but I don't think they quite hit the spot as much as your shots normally do.

The shadows are a little heavy in both - maybe this is intentional but I think they would benefit from a lift in this area. The second one is much better with the lamp moved away from the edge, but there is a dark halo around it which attracts my eye a little.

I think you've chosen particularly difficult subjects here Alan. My favourite is the second one,

I think the alternative view is great, on the first one its a bit like what you see when you're riding on an old steam train leaning out of the window taking shots towards the engine as you're going around a corner (if you see what I mean ), and I like that effect. Here, because there's clearly a lot of stuff just outside the left edges, the impression is a bit cramped and cut off.

I'm not the one to lecture Alan on composition though , but I will mention one small technical point, at the risk of being howled down (I'll brace myself :wink - but I find the skies very 'dirty', in terms of luminance noise, and colour noise in the cloud shadows). I mentioned it on another of your shots Alan, and I find it annoying (personally). I'm well aware it may not be a priority to many people, but having very 'clean' skys is something I always try and achieve. I do feel it would help give these images that extra polish.

I like both compositions of the bridges, Alan - the acute angles are unusual and work well, in my opinion. I would crop out the lamp-post and clone out the lamp from the second, as it is an unnecessary element (being irrelevant to the subject), and the light and dark halos around it spoil the image for me.

Thanks Philip.

Here's another go. Left the main lamp post in, but cloned out the one bottom centre. Lifted the shadows a bit more. Not sure if it works. There's always another day if not

This last one, to me anyway, looks a a lot more "cheery" if that is the right word. even the algae and bird poo look better.
