something about the composition, maybe that the bridge is too far into the corner? It doesn't work for me I'm afraid.

Tough subject to get right I think.
It looks a lovely well loved instrument

The chin rest is indeed a bit of a bummer where it is. Perhaps a much tighter crop to try and exclude it in the 2nd one (while keeping some space around the bridge).
The strings look a little 'jagged' as well. Slightly oversharpened? They also look extremely white - are they supposed to be white?

The one with an Adjuster [ either E or A depending on whether it's a Viola or Violin ] is wire and should be a lot thinner .
